Guild Atelier Operating Friction Review

See what happens
between the steps.

A process can look clear on paper and still produce delays, repeated work, unclear decisions, and workarounds.

The Operating Friction Review examines one workflow: how it is designed, how people carry it out, and what the available measures tell management.

You receive a concise written assessment of where friction occurs, what may be contributing to it, and what to address or investigate next.

One workflow. Defined scope. US$900.

When a review can help

  • Purchasing approvals repeatedly stall.
  • Work passes between teams without clear ownership.
  • Staff rely on workarounds to keep things moving.
  • The same information is entered, checked, or corrected several times.
  • Reports look healthy while complaints or delays persist.
  • A procedure works until an exception occurs.

You can begin with a simple request: “We’d like you to review our purchasing approval process.” We will agree on its starting point, endpoint, and the questions the review should examine.

What the review examines

Guild Atelier looks at the connections between people, decisions, information, and work.

Who needs what from whom? Where does responsibility transfer? What happens when information is missing or a decision is delayed? Which dependencies are visible, and which are understood only by the people doing the work?

The review also examines the signals management receives: what is measured, when it is measured, and whether those measures give a useful picture of the process.

How it works

  1. Confirm the scope

A complimentary 15–20-minute call establishes whether the workflow fits the review and answers buying questions. If it does, you receive a written scope and fee for agreement before work begins.

  2. Understand the process

A 30-minute sponsor session establishes the purpose, boundaries, and key questions. We review up to five relevant documents or records, approximately 50 pages or equivalent, and conduct up to three 30-minute staff interviews. Ideally, these include someone managing the process, someone doing the work, and someone receiving its output.

  3. Assess the evidence

We compare the documented process, staff accounts, and available records to identify friction, dependencies, gaps in feedback, and potentially misleading signals. The assessment distinguishes what the evidence shows, what it suggests, and what remains unknown.

  4. Receive and discuss the findings

You receive a concise written report followed by a 45-minute findings discussion with your sponsor. The report is delivered within ten business days after the agreed materials have been received and interviews completed.

What you receive

  • A workflow map showing key steps, handoffs, and dependencies identified during the review.
  • Supported findings explaining where friction occurs and why it matters.
  • An assessment of management signals identifying what available measures reveal or may conceal.
  • Evidence gaps and uncertainties requiring further investigation.
  • Prioritized next steps recommending changes or questions to pursue.

One consolidated round of factual corrections or clarification is included within seven days of delivery.
